MRI Software appoints ex-Domain CTO Mark Cohen

Property market industry leaders in 2022 will be using AI-first solutions

Sydney, Australia – 16 February 2022 – Global PropTech leader, MRI Software, today announces the appointment of Mark Cohen as Vice President of Product, Asia Pacific, effective immediately. The former Domain and Fairfax technology leader is tasked with driving innovation and integration for MRI’s best-in-class suite of solutions to the advantage of commercial and residential property leaders in the fast-growing Asia Pacific region.

Mr. Cohen was most recently divisional CEO for Claim Central Consolidated’s tech arm, Wilbur, a FinTech Global InsurTech100 innovator. Prior to Wilbur, Mr. Cohen spent five years as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Domain Group and held various technology leadership roles at Fairfax Media and other well-respected organisations.

The high-profile executive appointment reflects MRI’s belief in the strategic role of artificial intelligence (AI) and property technology (PropTech) to distinguish residential and commercial real estate industry leaders in 2022.

“AI-first PropTech allows leaders to make fast, data informed decisions in real-time, and frees up their professional staff to focus on the very human elements of real estate that continue to matter more than ever,” says Mr. Cohen.

“We’re in the midst of complex economic, technological and social change where uncertainty is the new normal. Leveraging data assets through machine learning and AI gives us deeper insights in real-time on market behaviours and movements. My task at MRI is to help customers understand how to unleash that potential to stay ahead of the changes, or even anticipate them.”

MRI Software managing director and senior vice president (Asia Pacific), David Bowie, says having someone of Mr. Cohen’s calibre and experience to drive product innovation, integration and delivery in the Asia Pacific is consistent with market growth forecasts.

“We’ve had a busy few years here in the Asia Pacific with five acquisitions across Australia and New Zealand. We’ve now got the best of commercial lease management, residential property management, integrated workplace management systems and customer relationship management solutions in the global MRI family – all selected based on their best-in-class technical abilities and potential to scale with an open and connected approach to innovation and integration we pride ourselves on at MRI.

“Mark has a holistic view of how technology can empower and improve business outcomes in the property space. My team and I are looking forward to working with him to deliver even more success and certainty for our customers this year,” surmises Mr. Bowie.

Three other new appointments at MRI Software in Australia announced today include:

  • Michael Abbott has been appointed as Vice-President, Product Management (Residential), Asia Pacific based in Auckland, New Zealand. He was previously CEO of Palace Property Software (acquired by MRI Software in 2021).
  • Rob Kearsley has re-located from the UK to join the Sydney-based APAC team as Director, Product Management (Commercial), reporting to Mark Cohen. Mr. Kearsley brings more than a decade in product leadership roles at MRI Software in the UK.
  • Leanne Howard is on board as Senior Manager, Customer Experience and Education Services. Howard brings a wealth of experience as General Manager for Total Real Estate Training at McGrath, Head of Customer Experience for LJ Hooker, and most recently as the brand and growth driver for a property software specialist.
