MRI Property Tree is ISO 27001 Certified
What does that mean and why should you care?
With cyber-crime and new threats constantly emerging, protection of data from either deliberate or accidental loss, compromise or destruction is vital to any business and Real Estate Agencies are no exception.
ISO 27001 is the world’s best-known standard for information security, cyber security and privacy protection. It sets the framework to establish, implement, operate, monitor, review and continually improve an information security management system.
Over the past few months, the MRI product team have worked to achieve this accreditation for MRI Property Tree as another armour to protect our client’s data, and against potential financial losses, legal consequences and damage to brand reputation.
How ISO 27001 protects your business
By MRI Software implementing the security framework specified in ISO 27001 into Property Tree, this helps our clients:
- Reduce vulnerability to the growing threat of cyber-attacks
- Respond to evolving security risks
- Ensure that assets such as financial statements, intellectual property, employee data and information entrusted by third parties remain undamaged, confidential, and available as needed
The ISO 27001’s “three principles” are to maintain the CIA Triad of cybersecurity– confidentiality, integrity, and availability. Confidentiality means that only authorised entities can access information, integrity means that only authorised entities can alter information, and availability means that information is available to authorised entities whenever they need it.
As part of MRI’s certification we firstly needed meet all the compliance criteria set out by Schellman and once approved are subject to annual surveillance audits to maintain compliance, and a major re-audit is required after three years to retain certification.
MRI’s Commitment to Data Security
The ISO 27001 is a robust framework that ensures data security is constantly prioritised. While achieving ISO 27001 is not a legal requirement, MRI’s commitment to our client’s information security has always been and continues to be of upmost importance in today’s modern and hyper-connected world.
Taking a proactive measure to data protection ensuring compliance with global best practice standards like ISO 27001 is just one of many measures put in place to help protect our clients against increasing cyber attacks targeted at real estate agencies.
Software security versus cyber security
Software security and cybersecurity are two important ways to keep computers and digital systems safe. Software security is all about making sure software applications are kept safe from threats, vulnerabilities and attacks.
By contrast cybersecurity, is a broader field that protects everything in the digital world – not just software, but also the machines, the data, and even how people use technology.
Software security is like having strong doors on your house, while cybersecurity is like having an alarm system and security cameras too.
Ensuring all employees have an awareness and follow security protocols will go a long way to help move the focus from reactionary to preventative measures, minimising risk and embed a culture of security across all aspects of your agency.
